The sale of Algemeen Dagblad

The sale of Algemeen Dagblad

Het Algemeen Dagblad (AD) is the second largest paid newspaper in the Netherlands with an average daily unit circulation of nearly 500,000.

Prior to the transaction AD was a joint venture of Wegener and PCM. Both companies equally shared a 50% legal interest, economically Wegener owned a 37% share.

In addition to the sales of AD, Wegener acquired PCM Lokale Media from PCM and sold its printing facilities in Leidschendam to PCM.

PCM Lokale Media approximately publishes 1.1 million door-to-door newspapers in the southern part of the Randstad which significantly will strengthen Wegener’s activities in the area. By selling the print facilities in Leidschendam, Wegener provides PCM with sufficient capacity to print AD on a stand alone basis.

By combining the above transactions the deal structure was creatively optimized enhancing the added value for all parties involved.
